Goals
The goals of the Open Gate Garden Club include:
  • To promote Civic Beautification, the club maintains plantings at:
    • Perham Corner Traffic Island
    • Jessie Stewart Memorial Urn in front of Adams Library
  • To promote garden therapy - the club does workshops with residents at the Horne Home, an assisted living facility
  • To support the Historical Society - the club decorates the Historical Society’s Barrett-Byam Homestead for a Christmas open house
  • Fundraiser - Annual Plant Sale held at:
    • Unitarian-Universalist Church, Central Square, Chelmsford
    • Central Square, Chelmsford
    • Saturday before Mother's Day
  • To encourage interest in the environment, the club gives funds to:
    • R.A.R.A. (Retarded Adults Rehabilitation Association) - Virginia Wilkins Scholarship is given to allow a client to attend a conservation camp during the summer
    • The Chelmsford Land Trust, Inc. to support their work
  • To encourage interest in the environment with our youth:
    • Our Jessie A. Stewart Conservation Scholarship sponsors a grade school program
    • Donations are also given to nonprofit groups for environmental education programs
  • Herb Interest Group (16 members) - meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m., unless otherwise noted
  • Newsletter "Through the Open Gate" published monthly and providing information on conservation, horticultural, and GCFM (Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts) and NGC (National Garden Clubs) projects
